Visitation
In the early morning dark
Two deer are barely
Visible on a grassy hill
Where children sled
When snow comes south
One might imagine
The duo has paused
For a last look at
The twisted body
Of their fallen comrade
First light the buzzards
Will arrive to do the work
Their beaks and claws
Were cut out to do
I don’t know how to
Determine antler point
But this set is suitable
For just a bluebird
Goldfinch and ruby
Throated sparrow
To pose on to form
A serendipitous
Funereal bouquet
After that perhaps
The headgear is found
Fit for a knife handle
Or two or set
On a wall where
A famously hued
Parakeet has the fly
Of the house
Two deer are barely
Visible on a grassy hill
Where children sled
When snow comes south
One might imagine
The duo has paused
For a last look at
The twisted body
Of their fallen comrade
First light the buzzards
Will arrive to do the work
